Company officers
Last updated
The Companies House Officers page in D2K Companies House Lookup shows who Companies House currently has on record as running a company - directors, secretaries and LLP members - together with anyone who has resigned.
Open it with View Officers from a company snapshot. The officers are fetched from the register at that moment and are not stored in Business Central, so what you see is the register as it stands right now.
What the list shows
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Officer Name | The name as Companies House holds it, surname first |
| Officer Role | Director, Secretary, Nominee Director, LLP Member and so on |
| Appointed Date | When they took the role |
| Resigned Date | When they left it. Blank means they are still in post |
| Nationality | As declared to the register |
Companies House does not publish full dates of birth for officers, only the month and year, so the app does not show one.
Add an officer as a contact
Two actions turn officers into Business Central contacts:
- Create Contact adds the officer you are standing on.
- Create Contacts for Officers in Post adds everyone who has not resigned, in one go.
Either way the new contact is a person, filed under the company contact for that company. The app works out which company contact that is, in this order:
- the contact behind a customer carrying that registration number,
- then the contact behind a vendor,
- then a company contact carrying the number on its own,
- and if Business Central has never seen the company, it creates the company contact from the register first.
A customer or vendor wins because its contact is the one already connected to your quotes, orders and interactions. Filing a director anywhere else would leave the same company recorded twice and joined up nowhere.
The officer's role becomes the contact's Job Title.
What happens to the name
Companies House writes individuals surname-first and in capitals - SMITH, John Andrew. The officers list shows that exactly as the register has
it, because that is the register's record. The contact gets the name the way
Business Central expects to read it: John Andrew Smith.
Letters after an apostrophe or a hyphen keep their capital, so O'Brien and Smith-Jones survive. A name with no comma is a corporate officer, or a name already in display order, and is copied across untouched.
Resigned officers
Create Contacts for Officers in Post deliberately skips anyone who has resigned - a board list is normally wanted for who is there now. If you do want a former director, select them and use Create Contact, which asks you to confirm first.
Running it again
Officers who are already contacts under that company are not duplicated, so after a Refresh you can run Create Contacts for Officers in Post again and it adds only the new appointments.
